Tips & Tricks

1) Check Dododex for Required Resources

Before you start, use Dododex to confirm exactly what you’ll need:

• Preferred food for the creature: Dododex tells you which food works best. It’s smart to bring a few extra supplies just in case.
• A tranquilizing weapon and ammo (for knock-out taming), such as tranq arrows, tranq darts, a slingshot, and similar options.



• Narcotics (if knock-out taming requires them), such as Narcoberries or Narcotics. In general, if you’re using higher-quality food or taming a lower-level dinosaur, you may need fewer narcotics—or possibly none.

2) Choose the Right Taming Method

Most creatures can be tamed using one of these approaches:

• Knock Out Taming (most common) — Inflict torpor until the creature becomes tranquilized, then feed it while it’s unconscious. (Dododex provides a list of eligible creatures.)
• Passive Taming — Walk up and feed the creature while it’s conscious. (Sometimes called non-violent taming, though it can still turn hostile.)
• Other unique methods — Some creatures require special handling, like feeding a Troodon sacrifices, using a Noglin to mind-control your dinos, or swimming alongside a Megachelon.

3) Trap the Creature (If Needed)

Many players use taming pens—structures built to trap a creature so you can tranquilize and tame it safely from inside. This makes it easier to manage torpor and reduces the chance of the creature attacking you (and in PvP, it may help protect you from enemies).

You can also use natural terrain, like cliffs, or environmental structures to “trap” a dino while you’re tranquilizing it.

4) Tranquilize the Creature (Knock-Out Tames Only)

This is often the toughest step. You’ll need to apply enough tranquilizer effects to bring the creature down—this depends on how aggressive it is, how strong it is, how fast it moves, and how much torpor you must inflict.

Approach carefully and continue tranquilizing until it goes down. As soon as you land a hit, the creature may either attack or run, so be ready.
