Network and cloud access notes

Full network access is required so the app can connect to the internet and use cloud storage services.

Because of this design, the app does not obtain other data from the internet.

When a new Google Drive user is set up, the Google Drive SDK will call the required method. For an existing account, the only available information is the account name. Finding user accounts on the device is done by listing the Google Drive folders the user can access on that specific device.

Using this approach also helps prevent the computer/device from going to sleep during long tasks, which can otherwise cause you to lose work.

Manage files on your phone

When you open Root Explorer for the first time, you’ll see the folders available on your device. These entries help your smartphone function normally and efficiently while you navigate.

Be careful with files that could impact software behavior—your hardware won’t be directly affected, but system-related changes can matter.

Folders are shown with two different icons: a blue folder or a white document. They behave differently depending on what you’re working with.

Common tasks include adding and removing files from external sources—for activities like decompression, downloading updates, installing a new version, and other file management operations.

You can also learn and use the available tools for these tasks directly inside the app.

Workaround / file operations

Each file type has a specific role, so changes inside files can be important. Typical workflows include:

• Insert a file into a folder: select the destination folder, then paste the file you copied.
• Rename files: use clear naming so files are easy to distinguish.
• View as text or code: the display style can change depending on what you’re doing.
• Change file ownership/location: move the file to another folder.
• Sharing/markers: marking a file compared to others isn’t the main workflow.
• Opening content: some files may require additional third-party tools to view the exact information you want.



• Share source code: you can copy the file’s contents so you can send it elsewhere.

Create a new working tab

When a tab is finished and you don’t need it anymore, you can open a fresh one using the large “+” button at the bottom corner of the screen.

You’ll then choose what kind of connection/account you want to create, such as:

• SD card file tab (regular local storage)
• Google Drive tab
• Box tab



• Dropbox tab
• Network tab (connect to network storage)

All tab types follow the same basic idea—storing and browsing folders/files—but each tab type may include additional options specific to the service you selected.

Save as a document (in-app screenshot)

Root Explorer includes an option to capture screenshots of files using the app’s own tools. Instead of relying on your phone’s standard screenshot function, use the in-app capture feature. This can improve security and ensure the saved image includes the most important information.

These captures can be useful as proof for discussions or for saving records for later.

Captured images are stored separately. To review them, swipe to the relevant location with your finger. To make edits, tap the image directly.
