Kingdom Rush Frontiers Introduction
Kingdom Rush Frontiers Kingdom Rush Frontiers is a strategic tower defense game with challenging levels, upgradeable towers and heroes, and multiple difficulty modes—build smart, defend key terrain, and conquer every wave.
Kingdom Rush Frontiers
Kingdom Rush Frontiers is a popular strategy tower defense game packed with dozens of levels across multiple difficulty settings. In each mission, you place defensive towers in the best locations for the terrain, while managing limited starting money. Every tower comes with its own stats—such as attack range, damage, and special traits—so winning requires thoughtful planning rather than random placement.
As you progress, you’ll unlock heroes and gain access to new tower upgrades. Upgrading improves the performance of both your towers and your heroes, giving you stronger tools for later levels.
The game includes three difficulty levels. Even though the number of enemy waves stays the same, the enemy lineup and total pressure keeps increasing as difficulty rises, making each level tougher in practice.
Gameplay Overview
If you’ve played Kingdom Rush before, you can jump in quickly. Frontiers uses the same core tower-defense flow, so returning players won’t need to relearn the basics.
The game also provides clear tutorials that explain how key systems work, helping new players get comfortable fast.
Starting a Mission
- When you begin a new game, you choose a difficulty: Casual, Normal, or Veteran.
- Difficulty affects enemy Hit Points (HP).
- You can also adjust difficulty per level.
- Each stage appears on a Frontiers map, where you get a short preview of what to expect before starting.
Game Modes
- Campaign (main/story mode) is the default experience.
- After completing a Campaign level with a 3-star rating, you unlock Heroic and Iron.
- Heroic and Iron offer fresh challenges by changing things like enemy waves, enemy types, and which towers you can use.

Stars, Lives, and Defeat
Each completed level earns stars based on how many lives you have left:
- 3 stars for roughly 18–20 lives remaining
- 2 stars for roughly 17–6 lives remaining
- 1 star for roughly 5–1 lives remaining
If you lose all lives, the attempt ends in defeat.
Heroic and Iron modes are stricter: both use only 1 life. Beating them grants 1 star per mode.
Upgrades and Star Cost
Use earned stars to buy Upgrades. Each upgrade costs 1 to 4 stars and provides permanent improvements to towers and spells.
You can purchase upgrades and also reset them at any time during the run. This means you can choose the best setup for each level as long as you have enough stars to buy everything you want.
Encyclopedia, Tips, and Strategy Guides
The in-game encyclopedia logs new discoveries as you play, including tower and enemy statistics. It also includes basic Tips and Tricks, plus links to Strategy Guides from Ironhide Studios—including videos showing levels being completed.
10th Anniversary Challenges (Mobile)
For the game’s 10th Anniversary, a Challenges feature was added to the mobile version. It lets players create custom challenges and share them with others.

Strategy Tips
- Expect difficulty: The game is designed to be challenging, and the progression includes roguelike-style learning—so losing a few times is part of getting better.
- Progress rewards you: As you advance, the game grants impressive new characters, helping you strengthen your future runs.
- Each adventure changes: Events, combat encounters, and even map visuals can shift when you start fresh, so focus on adapting rather than memorizing one “perfect” solution.
- Use enemy tooltips: Check the initiative bar for enemy stats and skills. Early on you’ll likely rely on this a lot, but it gets easier as you learn matchups.
- Watch for uneven odds: Pay attention to map events and make situational decisions. Kingdom Rush Frontiers is all about choosing what fits the moment—not following one fixed plan.
