By Justice or Mercy is a story-first casual game where you’re framed, arrested, and thrown into prison. When you finally get out, your journey shifts toward payback—targeting the people who set you up. Along the way, you’ll meet a cast of characters with distinct personalities, and what you choose during key story moments and dialogue determines which of two character story arcs you’ll follow. As your route unfolds, intimate scenes with different characters become available.

The game is protagonist-driven: every decision you make meaningfully shapes the plot. Even the characters’ attitudes, habits, and quirks can evolve based on your choices, helping the story feel more personal and immersive.

Characters

Alexandra Dantes

Your oldest sister. She acts laid-back—and usually caring—even if she rarely admits it. She loves teasing her younger brother (you), though. You two already have a history together, but what happens to that dynamic after everything you’ve been through is still unclear… After your father’s death, even Alexandra struggled to approach you, which only pushed Brian further into isolation.

Ashley Dantes

Your twin sister. She shares your mother’s quick temper, and somehow you both ended up understanding it in the same way. You used to be inseparable, but the arguing between you only kept escalating. Eventually it reached a point where communication completely broke down.

Emma Nakamura

Your childhood friend Emma—practically the only one you had back then. Your early years were spent standing up for her, even when it meant confronting anyone who made her cry. It probably wouldn’t be easy to explain why you went so far, but you and Emma have been through everything together. Still, when you hit your lowest point, she didn’t know how to help—and she ended up leaving. The result is a rough relationship for both of you, with regrets that still linger.

Hana Nakamura

Hana Nakamura is the middle daughter of the Nakamura family. She’s the carefree, kind type. Because of her looks, she attracted plenty of unwanted attention growing up, but you and Naomi were always there to shut those people down.

Naomi Nakamura

Naomi is Lin’s eldest daughter. To outsiders, she seems cold and ruthless. Even so, she’s constantly bickering with her sister Hana, and yet she’d do almost anything for both Hana and Emma. During your childhood, you looked up to Naomi while the two of you practiced judo together. She also had a habit of scaring off any man she showed interest in—until the situation flipped later on. Eventually, she was the one scaring off guys who tried to pursue her. Strangely, by then, she didn’t seem as interested in them anymore…

• “Really impressive.” I didn’t give this game a chance for years, and I seriously regret it now. The story is written well with a sweet pace, and it balances hot scenes with dialogue that’s surprisingly smooth. I’m also really happy with how the characters look, and how the new renders make them even better. I went from 4.5/5 to 5/5—it deserves it.

• “VN-style with a few choices…” It feels like a classic VN, with only a handful of choices that mainly decide whether you continue with a love interest/kink route or not. You can sometimes take what feels like “good” or “bad” outcomes (metaphorically, not literally), but it’s unclear whether that affects the main story. There are many different characters—maybe too many. Some reviewers feel the game can lose focus by leaning heavily into multiple love interest options and pushing the main story to the background. It’s not exactly a dealbreaker, but something the developers should consider. “Feature bloat” seems real. The story…
