Strategies of Mope.IO

Watch your tail. In mope.io, “tail” is a key mechanic. If another player bites your tail, you won’t just lose some XP—you’ll also take damage. Be extra careful because many animals target higher-level enemies by aiming for their tails.

Target the tail of certain big threats. If you run into a whale/kraken/dragon that isn’t good at protecting its tail, try to bite it. Keeping that creature from dying is important for managing the fight. With the right timing, you can sometimes gain large XP boosts quickly—helping you jump from mid-tier animals (like jellyfish) to higher ones (like marlin).

Tailing is easiest in tight spaces. Holes and lakes are especially good places to attempt tail-biting. In some cases, ultra-advanced players may quickly leap from something like an elephant to a dragon, so biting the tail of a top-scoring user can be extremely valuable—almost like a “lottery” moment. Still, experienced players usually manage their tails well, so they may team up for direct 1-on-1 pressure, or use skills instead of relying on tail bites.

If you’re alone, be cautious. Going solo makes mistakes more dangerous—getting hit and dying is far easier, and you risk losing your tail advantages too.

Know which animals hunt low-level targets. Cassowaries, krakens, land monsters, and sea monsters often go after weaker prey. However, be careful with krakens and land monsters: the lower-level target you’re trying to hunt might not be pulled in when they bump into something else, and some enemies can counterattack using special abilities. For krakens specifically, their large tail makes tail-biting easier.

Avoid getting trapped in dead ends. If you accidentally enter a dead end, escaping can be difficult. When you run, keep an eye on the map and don’t stop moving. If you do get trapped, your options are limited—dive, use a skill, or hope the predator backs off.

Extra tip while hunting: If your prey gets stuck in a dead end, attack in a way that blocks its escape route.

Black dragon hunting note. You can also capture a black dragon using a rhinoceros, marlin, or musk ox. For example, blue marlin has damage tied to its charge skill; if you catch another animal with it, you can avoid leaving meat behind and simply eat it instead.
