Ship Types

• Destroyer: Fast and highly maneuverable, destroyers are lightly armored but excel in agility. Their torpedo armament delivers serious impact—capable of damaging or even destroying heavily armored opponents. Destroyers can also deploy smoke screens to hide their movement and nearby allied ships. Whether operating alone or supporting a squad, they’re masters of ambush.



• Cruiser: Built for flexibility, cruisers can take on multiple battlefield roles. Different weapon setups and consumables make them adaptable in many naval situations. They’re known for rapid-firing artillery and strong maneuvering, helping them dodge torpedoes and shells launched from battleships. Their high fire rate is especially useful for targeting destroyers. Many cruisers also carry torpedoes, making them especially dangerous at close range.

  Notes by nation: American cruisers Tier VI and above do not use torpedoes, but their guns remain effective and their anti-air defenses can repel enemy aircraft squadrons efficiently. Japanese cruisers are more vulnerable to air attacks, though their artillery and torpedoes scale up with each tier—and their low detectability is one of their biggest advantages.

• Battleship: The heavy hitters of the fleet. Battleships combine massive firepower with strong survivability, thanks to thick armor and large-caliber guns. They play like sea fortresses, but they pay for that power with poor speed and limited maneuverability. Their long gun range lets them support allies from behind—yet they can also push forward to absorb damage at the front lines. Japanese battleship commanders typically benefit from staying back to leverage superior range, while German commanders often do best advancing and leaning on armor and secondary armaments.
• Carrier: A carrier fights primarily through aircraft squadrons. Your carrier loads aircraft that are ready to launch from the very start of the battle. You can choose between three aircraft types: attack aircraft, torpedo bombers, and bombers.

  Attack aircraft fire unguided rockets—these are highly effective against lightly armored targets and offer good accuracy. Bombers carry bombs designed to deal heavy damage to armored enemies. When using torpedo bombers, remember to line up your shot with proper lead before releasing your torpedoes.

• Submarine: Submarines are fragile but extremely dangerous hunters. They can strike targets both on the surface and while submerged. Their primary weapons include acoustic and standard (alternative) torpedoes. Acoustic homing torpedoes can track a target, but you must first tag it with sonar pings. A successful sonar ping marks a sector where the torpedoes will home in—though the marking lasts only briefly. Thanks to their specialized armament and low detectability, submarines can threaten every ship type, but they become easy prey once spotted.
