- “The demo felt great because you learn words and then get tested on them directly.”
Note: Some players mention it can be extremely challenging. One reviewer also suggested improvements such as:
- 8-way (omnidirectional) movement instead of a more retro-feeling control style
- Hints during tests/exams, like small phonetic cues or removing unused letters
Overall, feedback still praises the game as fun and effective for learning.

FAQs
How many people are working on this project?
We’re a small indie team of dedicated learners and creators. This is our dream project, and we currently have 4 people working on it during our free time.
When will the game be available?
Wagotabi is already available on iOS and Android. The PC release for Windows, Mac, and Linux is scheduled for August 13, 2025.
Did you use Japanese textbooks to create the word lists?

Yes. We reviewed major Japanese textbook content, then selected the essential concepts for a beginner starting from zero. The words are introduced in an RPG-style flow, with concepts used soon after they appear and reused as you continue progressing.

Did you work with Japanese teachers or native speakers?
Over 300 teachers (about half native Japanese speakers) tested the game and provided feedback. Their input helped us refine the content step by step, and some teachers already use the app in their classes.
