DuckStation Introduction
DuckStation DuckStation is a free open-source PS1 emulator for Android, built for compatibility, smooth high frame rates, and sharper HD graphics. Choose OpenGL, Vulkan, or software rendering, then enhance visuals with PGXP and widescreen support.
DuckStation

DuckStation is a free, open-source PlayStation emulator built to deliver strong compatibility, smooth performance (especially high frame rates), and improved HD visuals. It lets you revisit classic PS1 titles on PCs, mobile devices, Switch, and more.
The emulator offers three rendering approaches: OpenGL, Vulkan, and software rendering. If you have a powerful device, Vulkan can provide sharper image quality. On lower-end hardware, software rendering is often the safer choice for stability—making it usable across a very wide range of systems.
DuckStation also includes enhancements such as custom resolution upscaling, MSAA anti-aliasing, texture filtering, and true color output. In addition, it uses PGXP to improve geometric accuracy—helping reduce common PS1-era issues like texture jitter and polygon distortion—so visuals stay clearer even when running at higher resolutions.
Key Features
- Rendering modes: OpenGL, Vulkan, and software rendering
- Hardware renderer upgrades: improved image quality via texture filtering and true color (24-bit)
- Widescreen support: landscape output without stretching
- PGXP: geometric precision optimization, texture correction, and depth-buffer simulation to address texture “jitter” and polygon conflicts
- Adaptive downsampling filter
- Post-processing: shader chains using GLSL and experimental Reshade FX
- Performance: up to 60fps in supported PAL titles
- Per-game customization: individual enhancement options and custom controller mappings for each game
- Controls support: up to 8 controllers plus multi-touch in supported games
- Controller/keyboard mapping: includes controller vibration support
- RetroAchievements: supported in compatible games (https://retroachievements.org)
- Memory card editor: move save files and import .gme/.mcr/.mc/.mcd
- Patch code database: built in
- Saves & previews: save status and screenshot previews
- Speed boosts: high-speed acceleration on mid-to-high-end devices
- CPU overclock simulation: helps increase in-game frame rate
- Fast forward & rewind: available (avoid on low-speed devices)
- Pause menu tools: edit and scale controller layouts

Notable Highlights
- Broad game/disc format support: CUE, ISO, IMG, ECM, MS, CHD, and PBP
- Multiple renderer options: OpenGL, Vulkan, and software rendering
- Texture filtering
- Correct landscape display: supported games can run in landscape without distorting the image
- PAL performance: many titles can reach 60fps
- Individual control mapping: settings can be tailored per game
- Strong speed on capable devices
