How Uno Crazy Plays
Deck & Card Count
The game uses a deck of 108 cards:
- 25 cards per color (red, yellow, green, blue)
- Each color includes: one “0”, two copies each of 1–9, and two copies each of: Skip, Draw Two, and Reverse
- Four Wild cards
- Four Wild Draw Four cards
Decks produced since 2018 contain 112 cards instead, adding:
- 1× “Wild Shuffle Hands”
- 3× additional customizable Wild cards
Dealing & Starting a Hand

Before the cards are dealt, a dealer is chosen. Each player draws one random card; the player with the highest-number card becomes the dealer. Then the full deck is reshuffled.
To begin a round:
- 7 cards are dealt to each player.
- The top card of the remaining deck is flipped over and placed aside as the start of the discard pile.
The player to the dealer’s left goes first—unless the first discard card is an action or a Wild card (see the special rules below).
Your Turn: What You Can Do
On your turn, you must choose one of the following:
- Play a card that matches the discard pile by color, number, or symbol
- Play a Wild or Wild Draw Four if the rules allow it (see restrictions below)
- Draw one card from the deck, then you may play it immediately if it’s valid
- Important: if you draw, you can’t play other cards already in your hand during that same turn
Playing Cards
- Cards are placed face-up on top of the discard pile.
- Turns proceed clockwise around the table.

Wild Cards
- A Wild card can be played on any turn, even if you already have a matching card in your hand.
- When you play a Wild or Wild Draw Four, you must announce the new color before your turn ends. You may also choose to declare the current color.
Wild Draw Four Restrictions & Challenges
A Wild Draw Four can be played only if you have no cards that match the current color on the discard pile.
You may still have cards that:
- match the current number/symbol but are a different color, or
- are Wild cards

If you play a Wild Draw Four, the next player in sequence may challenge you to verify that your hand meets the requirement.
- If the card was played illegally, the challenger may trigger penalties (see penalties section in-game).
- If no challenge is made (or the play is not illegal), the user faces no penalty from the Wild Draw Four.
Deck Runs Out

If the draw pile becomes empty during play:
- the top discard is set aside
- the rest of the discard pile is shuffled to form a new draw deck
- gameplay continues as normal

No Trading
Trading cards with other players is not allowed at any time.
Calling “Uno Crazy”
When you have one card left (your penultimate card has been played), you must call “Uno Crazy” as a warning to the other players.
Winning & Scoring
The first player to get rid of all their cards (to “go out”) wins the hand.
After the round ends, everyone else’s remaining cards are counted for points:
- Number cards: worth their face value
- Action cards (Skip, Draw Two, Reverse): 20 points
- Wild and Wild Draw Four: 50 points
If someone goes out by playing a Draw Two or Wild Draw Four, the next player in sequence must draw the appropriate number of cards before the scoring is calculated.
Strategy Tips for Uno Crazy
Hold Onto Them
Don’t use Wild cards too early. Save them for moments when your hand is stuck. Treat Wilds like “escape” tools—if you can legally play something else, do that instead of spending a Wild.
Target Players With Few Cards
If an opponent is close to winning and has only a small number of cards, get rid of your Wild or Wild Draw Four as soon as you can. This helps reduce the points they score if they finish the round.
Think Twice Before Playing Wild Draw Four
Using a Wild Draw Four can backfire if the next player has a Wild card to respond. Plan ahead by checking how many cards each player has left and whether someone could counter your move. If you’re uncertain, it’s often smarter to wait.
Coordinate With Your Partner
If you’re playing as a team, look for chances to use Skip and Draw Two cards to help your partner shed cards faster.
Watch What Opponents Play
Pay attention to which cards the opposing team uses. Spot patterns to guess what they might struggle with later—then push them into drawing cards.
Don’t Hoard Wild Cards
Wild cards are most useful when you can use them to avoid getting stuck. Try not to wait too long—especially if opponents are forcing you to draw or if you’re likely to be skipped.
Use the “Sacrifice” Move
If your partner is one card away from going out, consider using a Wild Draw Four to set the color they need—even if it feels risky. (Timing and hand knowledge matter here.)
