TWRP APK Introduction

TWRP APK Get the official TWRP app for Android: it checks for new recovery releases, alerts you when updates are available, and helps install TWRP images with optional root features.

TWRP APK

The TWRP APK is an official app created by Team Win for TWRP. It helps you stay informed by notifying you when a new TWRP version is released for your specific device. When an update is available, you can download it through the app and install it.

Note: installation is for root users only, and it installs the recovery image without rebooting directly into recovery mode. For version checking, the app does not require root access, but extra options—such as flashing images—become available if you grant root permissions.

At the moment, the app can flash images only from internal storage. Support for additional storage locations is planned for a future update.

New features are being worked on, so be sure to check back regularly.

Key Features

Install TWRP

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a touch-based recovery. Unlike standard touchless recoveries, TWRP supports touch input, so you can move through options using the screen instead of relying on hardware buttons.

  • No need to navigate with volume keys and the lock/power key like in touchless recoveries.
  • The app installs the TWRP recovery on your smartphone in a few minutes.
  • It immediately pulls your device details and loads the correct recovery image file for flashing.
  • With root permission, the recovery image is then installed on your phone.

Open Source

TWRP APK

TWRP began as an open-source project created by a small group of developers early in the Android era. Because it’s open source, many developers contribute improvements and new code over time.

  • Ongoing development helps keep the experience stable and bug-resistant.
  • The app is available for free via APK download and also through the Google Play Store.

Wipe Cache (Cache & Dalvik)

You can wipe the cache and Dalvik cache directly from the Android TWRP app.

  • Access basic recovery functions without going into the stock recovery.
  • Wiping cache storage helps reset certain temporary data and does not require manual recovery navigation.

No Root Support (for Core Functions)

Many apps depend on root access, but the TWRP APK download supports key features even without root.

TWRP APK

  • Non-root use works for compatibility checks, downloading the recovery image, and wiping the cache.
  • Root features are limited compared to the full/root version, but the app still works smoothly.
  • Non-root users can explore the app’s capabilities before choosing to root.

100% Free & Safe

Root apps can sometimes change system behavior in risky ways, which may lead to soft brick or hard brick situations. The TWRP Android app is designed to be safer because it does not request root permission immediately after installation.

  • Works reliably on supported non-root devices.
  • If your non-root device isn’t compatible with TWRP, the app won’t function on it—reducing the risk of device damage.
  • TWRP APK

  • Overall, the app is intended to be 100% safe to use on most Android smartphones.

App Functions

Install

Use this option to flash ZIP files. When you select it, the app will:

  • Reboot into recovery
  • Flash the ZIP
  • Reboot back to Android

Backup

The app supports two backup types:

  • Classic Backup: Reboots to recovery, completes the backup, then returns to Android.
  • Live Backup (paid feature): Backs up your phone while you’re still actively using it—helping reduce downtime and keeping you on Android longer.

Restore

Restore works similarly to classic backups: the app reboots into recovery, completes the restore, and then returns to Android.

Partitions

The app scans available partitions and shows them in a list. You can back up an image of a partition in case problems occur later.

  • Useful for backing up EFS, as well as boot and recovery.

FAQs

What is excluded from a TWRP backup?

First, you select which partitions to include in the backup. A key detail concerns /data/media (see the question: What is a data/media device?).

If your device uses /data/media as internal storage, TWRP handles it differently than you might expect. In that case, backing up the user data partition will NOT include /data/media (your internal storage).

That means photos and other files stored on internal storage (including app data saved there by some apps) will not be included in a TWRP backup.
