Don’t Starve Together is a widely loved survival adventure where you and your team are dropped into a randomly generated open world. You’ll need quick thinking, careful planning, and smart teamwork to last as long as possible.

Each playable character has unique abilities. As you gain experience, you unlock more options and strengthen your survival approach. The game also includes a day-and-night cycle that strongly affects what you can do and what you’ll need to defend against.

How survival works

During the day, you can explore freely and gather essentials such as food, firewood, and other materials that spawn around the world. You can also use recipes to craft tools, supplies, and survival items.

When night arrives, the danger increases. Monsters and other threats begin to appear, so you’ll typically need to build shelter and rely on light sources for safety.

Stats you must protect

• Hunger
• Health
• Sanity

If any of these stats reach zero, your character dies. Staying composed and managing your needs is the key to pushing farther into the world’s dangers.

Game modes

Relaxed

• A calmer experience with fewer threats from the environment.
• You won’t die from starvation, freezing, overheating, or darkness.
• Incoming damage to survivors is reduced.
• Resurrection is always available via the Florid Postern.

Survival (default)

• Designed as a cooperative, more punishing mode.



• When a player dies, they become a Ghost Character (see below).
• Once all players are dead, a 120-second countdown begins.
• If no one is revived during that window, the world resets.

Endless

• A more relaxed mode that doesn’t require cooperation as strongly.
• It’s similar to Survival, but the world never resets.
• Ghost players can also resurrect themselves at the spawn portal as many times as they want.

Wilderness

• Players spawn in random locations across the map.
• If you die, you return to character select.
• You respawn as a new character in a different random spot, and your map progress is wiped.
• No resurrection items exist, including touchstones (though the world will still generate their pig-head set pieces).
• The world never resets.

Spring: Spring is a greener season for collecting resources and planting crops. Watch out, though—spring can bring rain, which may cause problems if your campfires go out.

Summer: Summer brings intense heat and a higher risk of wildfires. Prepare by crafting summer hats and endothermic fires to help manage overheating. Keep an eye out for fires—if they spread unchecked, they can quickly become dangerous.
