Bonetale Introduction

Bonetale Bonetale is a fan-made action-adventure where you control monsters and fight evil humans. Choose from nine characters, master skills, explore story mode, and play mini-games with a character editor.

Bonetale

Bonetale is a fan-made action-adventure game. Players pick from nine distinct characters and step into monstrous roles to battle against evil humans. The game includes multiple gameplay modes, a story with plenty of twists, adventures, and many mini-games—so there’s always something to do.

Bonetale also features different difficulty levels. As the difficulty rises, enemy behavior becomes more complex and varied. To succeed, you’ll need to make smart use of each character’s abilities and special skills to defeat foes and secure strong rewards.

The game comes with a built-in character editor, letting you design your own characters and customize their skills. That means your runs can be either smoother or far more challenging, depending on what you build.

Gameplay Overview

At first glance, Bonetale looks straightforward: defeat your enemies to clear each level. But the real challenge comes from the imbalance between both sides. Your attacks typically start at 1 damage, while your opponent has the tools to end the fight in moments.

To win, don’t rely on a head-on brawl. Instead, adjust your approach:

  • Use the movement keys to keep as much distance as possible from the human.
  • Fighting from range gives you time to build up attacks and set up counters.
  • Each skill can cause damage and special effects, so plan based on what it will trigger.
  • Keep disrupting their advances—block their momentum and you’ll come out on top.

Story Mode

Story Mode is the first unlocked mode in Bonetale. It offers three difficulty tiers: easy, medium, and difficult. Each tier contains three levels.

That raises a question the developers themselves put to players: if the overall story seems to span 9 levels, what’s really hidden in the journey? Explore, adapt, and clear every level to find out.

Events

From time to time, the game hosts events that occur at specific times. Usually, these unlock only tutorial-style levels. Keep an eye out—Bonetale is updated regularly with new mysterious event content.

Mini-Games

Bonetale includes mini-games intended to help you relax after tougher battles. However, they’re currently in development and locked.

Multiplayer

A multiplayer mode is planned for release soon. The developer also states you won’t need to complete earlier levels to unlock it.

Strategy Tips

Bone Zone Strategy

This approach focuses on Bone Zones. The idea is to place Bone Zones along the walls of the Judgement Hall, making sure Frisk/Chara isn’t close to you. When Frisk/Chara lines up with a Bone Zone, you do the following:

  • Use Normal Telekinesis Push (press C while not in Bad Time Mode) to push them into the Bone Zone.
  • Then use Bad Time Mode Telekinesis Push (press Shift + C) to push them away while the effect is active.

The amount of damage depends on the phase:

  • Phase 1 Chara: deals comparatively low damage.
  • Phase 2 Chara and Frisk: take much more damage.

Important: This tactic does not work on Phase 3 Chara. They can slash the bones and escape, leaving you no safe timing to push them away before you die.

This strategy is usable against Frisk, Phase 1 Chara, and Phase 2 Chara.

Blaster and Push Strategy

Bonetale

This method works with any version of Chara and Frisk (though it may take practice). The plan is simple:

  • As the human approaches, summon a Blaster.
  • After a short delay (under a second), use the normal Telekinesis Push to push them back.

After that push, you can choose one of two options:

  • Keep repeating the normal push if you still have normal pushes available and/or your stamina is good.
  • If you’re out of normal pushes or want to save stamina, push them back using the Bad Time Mode Telekinesis Push.

Note: To fire the Blaster, you only need to tap X. If you hold it (even briefly) and release after less than a second, it may wait before firing—especially as you push the human backward—making your push ineffective and wasting stamina.
