• List all valid combinations: For each cage, write down every number set that reaches the target sum, remembering that digits cannot repeat within that cage. A 1–9 reference grid can help you spot combinations quickly.
• Use the non-repeat rule early: If a number is already placed in a row or column, remove it from any cages that intersect that same row or column. This pruning can significantly reduce your options.
• Spot “locked” candidates: If a candidate number can only appear in one row or one column position within a cage, place it there. Once locked, that number can’t appear in the other cage spots sharing the same row/column.
• Try sum deductions: For example, in a two-cell cage with a sum of 9, the only options are (4,5) or (5,4). If 4 is already present in the row or column, you can immediately place 5.
• Use cross-hatching: Track where a number cannot go based on cage coverage. For instance, if a cage covers three cells in the same row, the sum constraint may rule out certain values in the remaining cells of that row.
