Along the way, you’ll run into odd students and Mr. Baldi, and you’ll need to use the items you find wisely—while learning the school’s layout—so you can slip past the teacher and escape before he catches you.

The game also includes an Endless Mode, where you try to grab as many notebooks as possible before being caught. As the run continues, Mr. Baldi’s movement speed increases, making each attempt harder. Story Mode Challenge

Avoid the Principal

One of the most frustrating hazards is the Principal. He can randomly appear in a hallway, spot you running, and send you to detention. The more times you end up in detention, the longer it lasts—making it an even bigger problem over time.

To reduce your chances while running: instead of holding the run button, tap it repeatedly when you’re close to him. Your speed will drop a little, but you conserve stamina more effectively and are less likely to be noticed by the Principal. (It’s similar in concept to a sprint-tap technique players may recognize from other games—just slower here.)

Avoid Detention (Glitch Note)

There’s also a glitch involving the Principal. If you break rules near the detention area and the Principal is about to catch you, enter the detention room before he does. You’ll still be given detention, but the door stays open, meaning you can escape without needing the Principal’s Keys.

Be careful: leaving the room without waiting can still count as breaking a school rule and may lead to a longer detention if the Principal catches you again.

Best Way to Use BSoda

BSoda is especially important for getting through the game’s final section. During that phase, Baldi’s pace becomes so fast that winning without BSoda is nearly impossible for most players.

The best use is in a long hallway with no obstacles, right before Baldi is about to reach you. Many players recommend using the westernmost and easternmost hallways—often preferring the former. Besides pushing Baldi far back, it can also keep him there for a long time, potentially clearing pressure by forcing him through other threats as well.

XemStretch (Glitch)

This is a glitch reported by SioNisti on speedrun.com. It’s noted to work in versions 1.2.2 and 1.3. If you’re within the pickup range for an item, try looking behind you and clicking the item—you’ll pick it up instead.

• I’ve run into lots of issues, including some items not behaving correctly. For example, the Big ol’ Boots is supposed to stop 1ST Prize from pushing you.
• Baldi’s speed increase works differently here: in this version (not in Plus or Classic Remastered), Baldi speeds up for each question you answer incorrectly.
• Because the game is older, some behavior may be buggy, and certain things might not work reliably.
