Forge of Empires Introduction

Forge of Empires Forge of Empires is a strategy city-builder where you guide a tribe from the Stone Age to the Space Age. Build, research, balance armies and tech, and fight with guild allies to expand your empire.

Forge of Empires

Forge of Empires combines city building with long-term civilization growth. You’ll start by shaping your tribe—collecting resources, organizing villagers, and directing them to construct homes and fortifications. From there, you’ll form an army, push forward through the technology tree, and guide your civilization from the Stone Age all the way to the Space Age. The game is highly strategic: with limited resources, you must carefully decide how to spend on upgrades, military strength, and research. Every choice can change the outcome for your civilization.

You can also join or create guilds, team up with other players in battles, and benefit from the strengths of alliances to grow faster and build an even more formidable empire.

Gameplay

Forge of Empires is a city-builder that begins in the Stone Age. As you progress, the technology tree carries you through every major era of human history and beyond into the far future. New eras bring fresh buildings for each category, and sometimes entirely new gameplay systems.

City Basics

  • Houses provide population (needed to place/operate many other buildings) and also generate gold.
  • Production buildings supply the resources your city needs to operate.
  • Goods are created in dedicated facilities.
  • Decorations and cultural buildings increase happiness, which must match or exceed the requirements of your current population.
  • Forge of Empires

  • Forge Points are used to advance through the technology tree and recharge gradually over time.

Great Buildings

Along the way, you can build Great Buildings, inspired by famous real-world landmarks. They offer stronger overall advantages, but constructing and upgrading them requires additional planning: you’ll need space, goods, forge points, and a special item called blueprints.

Combat and Tactics

Fighting requires building military units. Battles play out in a turn-based tactics minigame on a hexagonal grid. Units have strengths and weaknesses against others in a rock-paper-scissors-style matchup system.

Combat occurs on the world map and includes multiple player-versus-player modes. Players can also organize into teams via guilds.

Key Features

Complex Strategy Meets Ongoing Progress

Created by InnoGames, Forge of Empires delivers a deep empire-building strategy experience on Android. Guide your civilization from ancient times through technological breakthroughs and expansion. Each era adds new buildings, research opportunities, and fresh challenges—keeping gameplay engaging while still demanding careful strategic decisions.

Build, Expand, and Advance Through History

You begin with a small settlement and must keep gathering resources, placing buildings, and improving your economy to move forward. Every planned road, building placement, and research choice influences how efficiently your city grows.

Advancing through historical ages unlocks new architectural styles, different production chains, and unique cultural options—so your city’s appearance and capabilities evolve with your decisions.

Progress is driven by research and development. Investing in new technologies can improve production, unlock brand-new building types, and add military units from later eras. As your city expands, strategic planning becomes more complex—and more rewarding.

Tactical Battles and Guild-Based Diplomacy

A standout part of Forge of Empires is its turn-based tactical combat. Your army is made from units available in your current era, forcing you to balance military spending with civic growth. You can fight against AI opponents or jump into online PvP for tougher tests of both defensive setups and aggressive strategies.

Forge of Empires

Diplomacy is supported through a robust Guild system. Guilds encourage teamwork, trading, and structured competition through events and tournaments. There are also regular special events that offer exclusive rewards and ongoing goals tied to community and themed challenges.

Useful Tips

Move at a Realistic Pace

Running through eras quickly is possible, but it can leave you underprepared later. For example, one player completed the world in 14 days for EMA. If you want a steadier approach, consider an average progression timeline:

Forge of Empires

  • ~10 days to reach the Iron Age
  • ~1 month to reach Early Middle Age
  • ~2 months to reach High Middle Age
  • ~4 months to reach Late Middle Age

After LMA, expect an additional 2–3 months per age, plus around 1 extra month to gather the resources (including coins and supplies) needed to set up for the next era.

Build a Strong Army

Having a powerful army is useful in many situations, including:

  • Plundering other players (your neighborhood)
  • Protecting your city from people who plunder
  • Conquering sectors on the continent map
  • Completing Encounters in Guild Expeditions
  • Fighting in Guild Battlegrounds
  • Fighting in PvP (Beta)
  • Event quests
  • Forge of Empires

After buying a Military building using coins and supplies (or Diamonds), and after recruiting units, assign some of them to your defending army. Ideally, aim for about 8 units, focusing on units with strong matchups (the original guidance continues beyond this point).
