The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Introduction
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Survive the zombie apocalypse in The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. Play as Javier, meet Clementine, and use dialogue choices and quick events to shape the story and fight for a future.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is a well-loved post-apocalyptic survival adventure set in a world where civilization has fallen and the dead have taken over. You step into the shoes of Javier as he searches for his missing family, only to have his path cross with a young girl named Clementine. Together, their stories become tightly linked as you push through escalating dangers, tense crises, and difficult moments.
To move forward and survive, you’ll need to rely on your judgment and make choices that shape what happens next. As the game goes on, your decisions can dramatically steer the story. The question is simple: will you reach a good ending, or something far worse?
Gameplay

Point-and-click adventure, with familiar mechanics from earlier seasons. Like previous installments, you explore scenes, interact with the environment, and progress by collecting and using items. You can also talk with non-player characters using conversation trees, where responses may lead to multiple options.
- Two playable protagonists: You can play as Clementine and Javier (introduced this season).
- Explore and interact: Examine scenery, pick up items, and use them to advance.
- Conversations matter: Some dialogue responses give you choices such as selecting a reply or choosing to stay silent.
- Timed decisions: When an option is presented, you may have a limited time to choose. If you don’t pick, the conversation continues as though you stayed quiet.
- Long-term impact: What you choose can affect how other characters respond later, influencing future events.
- Action-focused scenes: Certain moments shift into quick-time events (QTEs) where you must act fast to prevent your character—or allies—from being killed.
- Failure and restart: If you fail a quick-time event, the game restarts at the beginning of that action sequence.
- Key choices under pressure: Some QTE scenes force a major decision on a timer—such as choosing which of two characters to save from attacking walkers.

Your actions don’t stay in the past. Events and characters shown (or not shown) in later episodes can depend on what you decided earlier—for example, a character you didn’t save may not appear in future scenes.
Using Previous Save Files
A New Frontier supports continuity from earlier games by incorporating player-made choices through existing save data. You’ll be able to import previous saves in different ways, including cases where players switched platforms before this title.

Although A New Frontier wasn’t originally released for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, players with Season Two saves on those consoles could download a patch. That patch uploads the save to Telltale’s servers, letting players access their story on their new platform.

Player Feedback (Community Comments)
- Performance and graphics: Some players report lag on certain mobile devices and ask developers to include graphics settings to reduce stuttering.
- Story comparison: A few users feel the story doesn’t match the quality of Season 1 and Season 2.
- Clementine as protagonist: Some believe the game would have been more popular if it played as Clementine again for the majority of the experience.
- Still a fan: Despite concerns, players say they enjoy the overall Walking Dead series and want the final season released on Android as soon as possible.
Additional impressions: Compared to the previous two seasons, the presentation is often described as sharper and more detailed, while still keeping the classic Telltale-style animation. Cutscenes and combat animations are also noted as being well put together. One reviewer mentions that although they didn’t mind the change of playing mostly as Javier (instead of Clementine being the main protagonist throughout), Clementine’s presence remains important to the story.
