Mini Metro Introduction
Mini Metro Mini Metro is a minimalist simulation where you build subway lines, assign trains, and expand tunnels to keep passengers moving as your city grows fast. Choose modes and stay ahead of demand.
Mini Metro
Mini Metro is a minimalist simulation puzzle where you build an efficient subway system for a city that grows faster and faster. As passenger numbers rise, you have to plan routes, manage train assignments, and expand tunnels—so commuters reach their stops on time.
Because the city keeps changing, new stations are added at random each week, and passenger demand shifts constantly. If too many riders get stuck waiting on a station for too long, the game ends—making every session a real test of adaptability and strategy. To keep things fresh, the game offers several modes: Normal, Endless, Extreme, and Creative.
How to Play
Start with any city, then connect stations so passengers can travel efficiently. Your network grows step by step as fresh stations appear and demand increases.
- Open Mini Metro and choose a city map, then check the initial station layout.
- Use your finger to draw lines between stations so riders can move along routes that match the stations’ shapes.
- Place trains on the routes you create, then add carriages or tunnels whenever upgrades become available.
- Track passenger movement and adjust your lines to reduce crowding—especially by moving trains to where congestion peaks.
- If you want a different pace, switch between Normal, Endless, Extreme, or Creative and keep building.
Key Functions & Gameplay Modes
The game somehow feels both tense and calming—simple to understand, yet layered enough to demand real thinking. Give it a try and you’ll see why.
- Normal mode: designed for faster scores.
- Endless mode: no limits, keep going as long as you can.
- Extreme mode: a tougher challenge for experienced players.
- Creative Mode: build your own subway network in the all-new sandbox-style experience.

City Variety & Replayability
- Nearly thirty real-world cities: including London, Paris, New York, Osaka, St. Petersburg, São Paulo, Istanbul, Auckland, and more.
- Each city comes with its own color scheme, distinct operational challenges, and a different game speed.
- City development is randomized, so no two runs play the same—plans that worked once may struggle next time.
- Every map is thoughtfully crafted, letting you aim for your own “perfect” system—similar in spirit to the level of Harry Baker, often credited as the father of the London Underground.
- You can also customize your subway designs and even set them as your computer wallpaper.

Audio, Accessibility, and Community
- An automated soundtrack system—created by Disasterpeace (the composer behind Fez)—changes music endlessly based on how your network evolves.
- Night mode and colorblind mode are available.
- There are also awesome trains, plus many player-made maps waiting for you in the Steam Workshop.
Highlights
- Style: simple geometric shapes turn your map into a “living” diagram.
- Cities: different places have unique layouts and river placements that force new solutions.
- Complexity: stations arrive over time, steadily increasing the difficulty of managing routes.
- Resources: you receive a limited number of trains, lines, and tunnels—so every move matters.
- Controls: everything is handled with touch gestures, built to be convenient on mobile.
Player Reviews
“It’s a real test of intelligence.” Every time a station appears, I have to stop and think a long time about how to draw lines without them constantly passing through similar stations. But then, in some areas, the crowd levels suddenly spike for no clear reason. It gets too hard for me, and I can’t keep playing—my best run lasted about 60 days.

There’s also something about how boarding works that feels strange: first, only one passenger type can board, and the next type boards only if there’s still room. It seems to be based on groups boarding in batches rather than how many of each type are waiting at a station. In practice, that can leave many passengers of the same type stranded in certain places.
“Very good game.” The graphics are simple but beautiful, and the touchscreen controls feel great. The main issues I noticed are: (1) no save system—if you fail, you start over, and even leaving the game requires restarting; (2) it’s easy to make accidental inputs, especially when there are many lines; (3) it’s hard to make precise line changes—you can remove an entire line, but you can’t easily cut out just a small section.

It’s fun, but the controls can be demanding. Mistakes happen easily, similar to unlocking patterns on mobile devices. I’d love to see a “back” button or something similar to help players and make the experience smoother.
Summary
Mini Metro is a minimalist puzzle game that hooks you with straightforward mechanics and strategic depth. Its clean presentation and gentle color palette make the game pleasant to look at, while each city map introduces new conditions and planning challenges.
The rules are easy to learn, but success requires careful decisions as the city grows. Each session feels rewarding because you can experiment with different approaches and test how well your subway system adapts.
