Aftersoul Introduction

Aftersoul Aftersoul is a casual story-driven RPG where you team up with flawed companions to unravel a demon invasion. Discover secrets, betrayals, and quest unlocks through tactical combat and shifting dialogue.

About Aftersoul

In Aftersoul, you travel alongside a group of companions through a world that’s been torn apart by demons. Along the way, you’ll meet a wide variety of characters and visit unsettling locations, where different events and hidden conspiracies begin to pull you in.

Working closely with your companions is essential. Together, you’ll uncover what the cult is planning, experience many intertwined stories, and gradually piece together what your role in this world truly is. The game’s narrative unfolds through quests and exploration—complete missions and keep investigating to reveal more of the truth.

Ongoing updates will add new story chapters and improve gameplay performance, helping ensure a smoother experience for everyone.

Key Features

  • Explore a realm fractured by demonic chaos—where cities collapse into abyssal rifts and forests seem to carry ancient secrets.
  • Discover scattered truths about your character’s forgotten past, connected to the land’s decay and cursed beings.
  • Face rival groups and corrupted NPCs, each offering alliances that can be dangerous—or outright betrayals—in a morally gray world.
  • Build a party of flawed companions, with hidden motives and abilities that matter when you’re navigating risky quests.
  • Use dialogue choices to reshape relationships, set off faction betrayals, or uncover prohibited lore tied to where the demonic invasion began.
  • Fight using a mix of tactical magic and brutal melee. Take advantage of the environment and make use of cursed artifacts to gain an edge.

Changelog

Story

  • Estate questline: Experience the full Estate quest chain.
  • Ancient Woods: Find the cultist plot hidden beyond the Ancient Woods.
  • Quest & Journal updates: Existing quests have been streamlined, and the Journal tab has been updated.
  • Dungeons: Added the first version of “dungeons,” placed throughout Act 1.

Combat & Pathways

There aren’t major changes to most existing skills. The main goal is improving the baseline strength of the cast by adding character abilities and rolling out ??? pathway skills. Expect broader skill overhauls later—until then, you can enjoy Ether Arrow, Burn Dots, and improved healing effectiveness while they last.

  • ??? Pathway Skills Added: Put enough levels into a pathway to unlock a skill. This is meant to boost early-game skill power without relying only on saving ether for Trainers.
  • ??? Ability // Prowess (Added): Gain stacks when you use skills or take damage. Higher stacks mean increased stats.
  • Hunter Ability // Tempo (Buffed): Build meter over time, and lose less meter when you use skills. You no longer lose meter when taking damage. High meter grants increased stats.
  • Knave Ability // Ward (Added): Prevents an ally from being downed once. It also periodically triggers an extra effect.
  • New Buff: Cleanse — removes a debuff from a target.
  • New Buff: Regen — doubles health regeneration rate and increases resist by 50% for a set duration.
  • New Buff: Calm — increases mana regeneration by 30% per stack for a duration; using mana consumes Calm.
  • New Debuff: Poison — deals periodic damage based on a percentage of PHYS DMG, and it ignores defense mitigation.

Characters

Aftersoul

  • Sage: New questline—help encourage the shy wolf.
  • Arson: New questline—those flames are definitely causing trouble.
  • Plantspawn: New fight outcomes for the main character.
  • Fang: You can find him in the Estate—he definitely doesn’t seem up to anything dangerous... probably.
  • Wolven Groundskeeper: New questline—maybe you can win him over?
  • Greyhaven Guards: Check the Estate Grounds to see what they’re up to.
  • Head Acolyte: Someone is lingering in the Ancient Woods.
  • Aftersoul

  • Fumigator: A big cultist—let’s hope he doesn’t cause problems.
  • Cultist Leader: The leader of the cult—really? This guy?
  • Goldrum: You can now learn where Goldrum ran off to.
  • Southpaw: Help him oversee the first layer of the mines.

Optimization Notes

A large portion of the game is currently loaded during boot, which the developer plans to improve. The goal is to stagger loading and open/close different parts of the game as they’re needed, instead of keeping everything active at all times.

Before making that change, a lot of time was spent reviewing existing systems, menus, and shaders to help stabilize performance. For now, the game still launches with a significant amount of content loaded—this isn’t ideal, but it’s a focus for future updates. Recent optimization work has concentrated on reducing load and redundancy in systems already built.

Known Issues

  • With the introduction of breakout scenes, some players report that breakout scenes won’t load when entering the forest (the scenes remain blank instead).
  • Aftersoul

  • The only known workaround is to delete Aftersoul and reinstall it, since this may be caused by updating the game by replacing a newer version into an existing directory.

Player Comments

Aftersoul

  • “Very interesting little game. I hope the corruption elements become more pronounced over time, along with a lot of choice. Maybe I don’t want my hunter werewolf buddy to give in to the dark side?”
