Story of Antonym Obscure

Nishikino Haruto is feeling pretty hopeless. At 26 years old, he’s got little to show besides a cramped room in a worn-down apartment building, a low-grade job with unbearable coworkers, and a pile of regrets.

When he was younger, Haruto played in a school band called The Unappreciated Egoists. He had a half-formed dream of making it big—and of one day performing on stage alongside his bandmates: Ryo (distant), Taiki (easygoing), Kei (playful/flirtatious), and Akira (a talented, self-conscious prodigy).

Unfortunately, things never clicked. The band eventually fell apart, and that was that—until much later, when Akira forms a new group of his own and somehow rockets straight to the top of the music world.

Now Haruto can’t stop thinking about Akira’s band, Obscure, their massive hit Eternal Autumn, and the messy feelings he still has for Akira.

Haruto resents Akira’s success, but he can’t deny that he’s still drawn to him. When he hears that Obscure will perform locally, his thoughts start running wild: what if he sees Akira again… and does Akira even remember who he is?

• I really liked Akira and how the story played out. The final CG is super cute! I just didn’t fully get why Akira likes Haruto so much—Haruto can be kind of rude.
