Useful Tips
Use the environment
When you’re near an object you can interact with, it should be highlighted on the screen. Each stage includes multiple interactable items—things like throwable barrels for pressure, or even structures you can jump off of. Just press the interact button while the object is highlighted to use it.
How to use X-ray attacks
In Mortal Kombat X, X-ray Attacks trigger a brutal animation and can deal a large amount of damage. When the meter at the bottom fills up, it will flash—then you can perform your fighter’s specific X-ray by pressing both triggers at once. Try to use it when you’re close to your opponent, or it may miss.
But don’t waste your X-rays
X-rays look flashy, but they aren’t always the best use of your special bars. They’re great as a finisher, but in many matches it’s smarter to save your resources for combo breakers.
Practice combos early
If you’re new, spend time learning the basics: the attack buttons, core combo routes, how to trigger an X-ray, and how to end a match with a Fatality. These basics are typically available through the options menu, and mastering them is key to improving quickly.

Don’t skip the tutorial
Tutorial scenarios include both fixed and dynamic elements you can use to attack and move. It may sound simple, but it teaches important skills—like breaking combos and launching enemies into the air so you can set up your own combo sequences. Be sure to run through it.
Player Comments
- MK 9 vs. MK X
One player notes that MK 9 was enjoyable, but it didn’t introduce many truly new characters and felt like a remake of the first three episodes. They highlight that MK X finally brings in completely new characters debuting for the first time, including characters connected through family ties (for example, Cassie Cage, the daughter of Johnny and Sonya).
