Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes Introduction
Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes expands the Sengoku Basara series with fresh maps, items, and modes. Control 30 generals across story, conquest, free, and battle, earn rewards, unlock skins, and team up online.
Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes
Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes is an expansion pack for the Sengoku Basara series. It expands on the original game by introducing new items, additional maps, and fresh gameplay modes. In total, players can take control of 30 playable generals across story, conquest, free, and battle-style modes. By using each character’s abilities and their movement to outplay opponents, you can secure victories and earn plenty of rewards—unlocking even more modes and character outfits along the way.

You can also swap hero skins freely, letting you look even more stylish during fights. The game further includes a multiplayer mode, where you can invite friends to form teams and battle players worldwide, highlighting teamwork to push back enemy forces.

Gameplay Modes in Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes
Story Mode

Story Mode follows the same overall structure as Sengoku Basara 2’s Story Mode. You select a character and progress through their narrative. The key difference is that, in this expansion, you can choose from only 3 newly playable characters: Kojuro Katakura, Nagamasa Azai, and Oichi. Completing their story grants the third costume for each character.
Side Story Mode
Side Story Mode is a new addition in Heroes. It plays similarly to Story Mode, but it’s shorter—consisting of only 3 stages. Character choice is also limited here. The characters with Side Stories include: Kotaro Fuma, Keiji Maeda, Masamune Date, Yukimura Sanada, and Motochika Chosokabe.
Finish Side Story Mode to unlock the third costume for each character included in this mode.
Conquest Mode
Conquest Mode remains close to how it works in Sengoku Basara 2, but with two notable changes. First, battles now include a new random battle element. Second, it supports 2-player co-op. Clearing Conquest Mode still unlocks the player’s second costume.
Free Mode
In Free Mode, you can play any unlocked stage using any unlocked character—similar to earlier Sengoku Basara titles. Once you unlock them, you can access both standard stages and exclusive stages from Sengoku Basara 2 and from Heroes.
Tournament Mode
Tournament Mode from Sengoku Basara 2 returns, but it has been reworked. There are now two tournament types: Grand Tournament and Ultimate Grand Tournament. Like Conquest Mode, each can be played with 2 players.
- Team setup: In this mode, you choose 2 characters.
- Single-player: It functions like a tag-style battle with one character active at a time.
- 2-player co-op: It becomes a split-screen co-op experience.
- KO handling: If one character is knocked out (KO’d), the other player can revive them in co-op. In single-player, the remaining character takes over and the KO’d character is revived in the next round.
- Different opponents: Enemies vary from round to round.
- Roulette removed: The roulette feature that appeared after clearing each round in Sengoku Basara 2 is not present in Heroes.

Rewards and progression: Winning 100 rounds grants the best weapon, while winning 50 rounds grants the best armor for the characters used. You can still save progress every 10 rounds.
Grand Tournament
Grand Tournament is structured very similarly to Sengoku Basara 2’s Tournament Mode. During the climb, you’ll face additional challenges. Completing these rewards you with gold and a rice ball. If you complete all 60 challenges, you’ll unlock an achievement.
The EXP earned from clearing rounds is split between the two characters you selected.
Ultimate Grand Tournament
Ultimate Grand Tournament is mostly the same as Grand Tournament, but the rewards differ: instead of receiving EXP from round clears, you’re rewarded with gold. It also includes a time limit that refills and accumulates each time you complete a round.
Versus Mode
Versus Mode is another new mode. It pits two characters directly against each other in one of 8 competition types. It’s also the only mode where the AI is allowed to use a Basara Attack.
Player Comments / Community Notes
As an expansion pack for Sengoku Basara 2—the second official entry in the Sengoku Basara series—Heroes makes all enemy commanders introduced so far into playable characters. It also adds Matsunaga Hisahide as a new playable character (unfortunately, an NPC character option isn’t available).
With these additions, the total reaches 30 playable characters.
Many fans consider Sengoku Basara 2, including its main story, to be a masterpiece.
One major reason is that character balance was adjusted in a way that improved the performance of some characters who were harder to use in the second game. Item variety also increased—some items were removed, and others had their effects changed.
The expansion also adds more dedicated storytelling: new story content was created for the Azai couple and Kojuro Katakura, plus shorter story segments for Motochika Chosokabe, Yukimura Sanada, Masamune Date, Keiji Maeda, and Kotaro Fuma. The Story Mode in Heroes is more heavily presented than the base game’s story, including event videos in every chapter and a highly immersive experience.
As a result, more battlefields were added—up to 64 maps in total. In the Sengoku Basara series, Hero Gaiden is the only other title known for that many maps, so 64 is considered a huge number. This is especially notable since sequels 3 and 4 faced criticism for having fewer than 40 maps.
Finally, because 2-player play is supported, new battle-focused content was added for the first time in the series (as described in the original discussion).
