Once Human is an open-world survival game set after the apocalypse. You play as a superhuman survivor who creates and expands a personal shelter, ventures into unexplored regions on the map, fights off a variety of infected monsters, and gathers plenty of resources to improve your base. To survive the harsh world outside, you can add defensive installations and living spaces, then keep upgrading as you progress.

You’ll also meet mutated companion creatures. Assign each one a role that matches its type—such as mining, cooking, or combat—so your runs feel more flexible and fun. The game is continuously updated and refined, with new gameplay content and events designed to keep things fresh.

Gameplay Overview

Once Human blends survival gameplay with looter-shooter action in a shared open-world sandbox. When you enter the environment, you’ll go through a tutorial and early missions that teach you how survival systems work and how the game’s story progresses.

If you join a server that has been running long enough to unlock time-gated content (such as memetics—the skills you can learn using ciphers), you can earn these by finishing quests and leveling up your character.

Your character and high-end gear can be saved in Eternaland, a private isolated island where you store valuable items, equipment, and deviants. When you move to a new scenario, you’re limited by the rarity of the items you bring with you.

In Eternaland, you can construct anything you’ve already unlocked, using dust—a crafting material generated from items in your inventory that can’t be carried into Eternaland.

Survival Systems

• Collect resources and craft items.
• Build and manage your base.
• Eat and drink to manage hunger and hydration.
• Maintain your meters above a key level to gain buffs such as improved health and damage.
• Sanity matters: prolonged time in supernatural areas lowers your sanity meter, reducing your maximum health.
• To recover sanity, consume specific resources or rest in a bed.

Early Game Loop

At the beginning, you’ll mostly gather materials to set up a base camp, then secure weapons and ammunition so you can explore and take on main missions, side missions, activities, and world events.

Strongholds and Rift Anchors

Strongholds are major map locations that claim specific areas. They’re packed with enemies and contain valuable treasures and resources. Each stronghold has its own theme and unique objectives to complete.

Every stronghold includes a rift anchor. Activating it provides rewards and helps you progress between Monolith battles.

Monolith Battles

Monolith battles are key encounters you work toward by pushing through the main story and clearing strongholds across each zone. These boss fights require you to complete multiple battle phases to defeat the Monolith.

There are currently three unique Monolith bosses.

Silos (Repeatable Dungeons)

Silos are instance-generated dungeons scattered through the open world, with multiple difficulty tiers. You’ll face basic and elite enemies, plus a mini boss at the end.

Each silo type offers specific rewards and can be replayed to farm resources.

Key Features

The Companionship of Anomalies

As you travel, you’ll encounter beings called Anomalies. They act as allies in this strange post-apocalyptic world, and each type provides different benefits to improve your survival.

• Territorial Anomalies boost efficiency in gathering and crafting, giving you more time to explore.
• Combat Anomalies fight alongside you and help turn the tide during battles against mutants.
• Crafting Anomalies help you create special gadgets and improved tools, from tactical gear to performance-enhancing items.

With these companions supporting you, your journey feels less like a solo struggle and more like a shared fight for survival.

Mastering Your Arsenal

Because survival depends on how well you defend yourself, Once Human includes a deep gun modification system. You can tailor your weapons to fit your personal combat style.

Use a wide range of blueprints and attachments to build the right weapon for any situation—whether you prefer close-range encounters or long-distance firefights. The game encourages experimentation so you can discover a loadout that helps you survive the odds.
