Exciting Features
- 50 action-packed levels — Clear all 50 Adventure Mode stages, from day and night to foggy streets, pool areas, rooftops, and more. In Survival Mode, you’ll need to hold out against endless waves of zombies.
- Not all zombies are the same — Face Pole Vaulting Zombies, Diving Zombies, Buckethead Zombies, and 26 more types. Each one brings its own threat, so you’ll have to react fast and place plants smartly.
- Smarter plant strategy required — You only have limited plants and seeds, and the zombies will do everything to reach your house. They may jump, run, dance, swim, and even eat plants. Use the in-game encyclopedia to study every zombie and plant so you can plan your approach.
- Longer fights, stronger wins — As you progress, you’ll unlock 49 perennial plants and earn coins to purchase pet snails, power-ups, and more.
Exclusive Characteristics (Android)
This classic is available on Android as a free re-release of the original game, which received multiple Game of the Year awards in 2009. You’ll be able to play the same levels and use the same units as the original—however, this version is fully free and includes ads.
The Simplest Tower Defense Game

In the free version, the core gameplay is straightforward: each level challenges you to plant defenses in your garden to eliminate every zombie trying to break into your house.
The Sunflower is especially important early on because it generates solar energy, which lets you place more plants. Winning usually comes down to building a strong plant combination. For instance, the Peashooter is a great early pick, particularly when paired with a solid wall such as the Wall-nut.
A Huge Horde of Zombies Awaits
One of the most memorable parts of the free version is the huge variety of zombies. At first, you’ll mostly deal with ordinary zombies that are easier to handle. As you move forward, tougher enemies appear more often.
- Zombies with long poles may try to jump up to the second floor.
- Buckethead Zombies are much harder to defeat due to their protective headgear.
- Some enemies, like zombies in football outfits, can reach your doorstep quickly if you’re not careful.
Amazing Highlights

- Lots of plants and zombies — Use favorites like the Sunflower for more sunlight and the Peashooter for rapid pea attacks. You’ll also encounter many unusual zombies, including jetpack types and even small zombie “chickens.”
- Upgrade your plants — As you play, plants can become stronger, faster, or gain new abilities, which becomes especially important once zombies start getting tougher.
- Challenge others — If you’re confident in your zombie-stopping skills, test yourself against other players too.

User Comments
- I love killing zombies—on my computer, phone, tablet, on the bus, at boring parties, even in bed at night. I’ve been playing Plants vs. Zombies for years and still enjoy it. Disclaimer: I play offline, so ads aren’t an issue for me.
- This game is seriously addictive. I’m already on Adventure 2, and some levels are really hard for me—especially the stages with the 3 force plants (where crazy Dave gives you three plants). It can be frustrating, but it also makes you want to win. I’m currently playing Adventure 2 Night level 4 and it’s fun. One issue I’ve run into: watching an ad for a reward, then tapping the X button can cause the game to go blank and exit, though overall it’s still great.
- I’ve played this on mobile, PC, and console for years—it's one of my favorites. Ads are easy to ignore by disconnecting from the internet, and I usually skip paying for extra features. I also like doing speed runs and enjoy that I can delete and reload to restart quickly.
