User Reviews (Highlights)

  • A user mentions they tried both the paid and free versions, saying the app matches its claims and is not overly complicated to set up. They also note that connecting directly to Discord can sometimes be finicky, so they prefer running it through OBS and streaming from there. They suggest the desktop client could include more camera settings.
  • Another review praises using a Galaxy S9 as an HD camera. They recommend starting the DroidCam app on the phone first, then launching either the PC client or the OBS plugin—only one at a time. They also point out that some resolutions vary by phone model, though high-resolution recording is still possible. For smoother recording, they recommend disabling WiFi on the phone and connecting via USB.
  • One reviewer uses DroidCam to remotely monitor and record group activity at bird feeders. They say it works “right out of the box” and share tips like using the highest-bandwidth WiFi you can (for example, a 5GHz extender helps reduce dropped connections). They also mention remote control software can help when the phone is far away, but if the connection drops, remote control won’t be helpful either.
  • Another user finds installation and setup easy on both smartphone and PC. They appreciate being able to reposition the camera anywhere within the local WiFi area, but recommend using a holder or tripod to keep it stable.
  • A reviewer notes a difference from an earlier version: using the phone as a microphone-only isn’t available in this version, but they like the improved camera customization.
