• I subscribed to Standard via Google Play, but the benefits didn’t appear on my account even though I used the correct email. The app kept telling me to unlock Viki Pass. Google Play showed the subscription as “unconfirmed,” and the issue didn’t resolve even after deleting and reinstalling the app. EDIT: the benefits finally showed up in my account. The app is smooth and the show lineup is extensive—I’d recommend it.



• Don’t let all complaints scare you. I use the free version, which basically means you watch a few ads per episode, and many include a “skip” option after a few seconds. The ad length feels shorter than Tubi and Amazon Video. Subtitles work well, and the app remembers where you left off. There are also plenty of free Japanese and Korean dramas, romantic comedies, and more. The free catalog is fairly large with some great titles.

• I’ve used the app for a while. With a subscription, I don’t have any issues. I can watch on my phone, tablet, TV, and desktop without problems. Some people complain about ads, but if you subscribe, that won’t affect you. If you can’t or won’t pay, ads are the trade-off. As someone who grew up in the 90s, I’m used to commercials—so I’m happy to watch without ads now.
