PhotoPills Introduction
PhotoPills PhotoPills helps astronomy fans capture epic sky and starry night scenes. Track sun/moon locations, view astronomy news, plan golden/blue hour moments, and share your photos in the community.
PhotoPills
PhotoPills is a photography app made for astronomy lovers. Wherever you are—at any time—you can plan and capture breathtaking views of the sky and star-filled nights, then share your results with friends or join community photo contests to earn likes and comments from other users.

As your photo planning companion, the app includes a location search tool to quickly pinpoint where the Sun and Moon will appear. It also delivers the latest astronomical updates and news about sky events, so you can feed both your photographic creativity and your curiosity.
Key Features
This app helps turn ideas that usually live only in editing or compositing workflows into real, shootable scenes. For example, you can imagine a striking portrait-like red Sun framed between two tall mountains—or a shoreline moment where a lighthouse is partially covered by the Moon lighting up the coast. These are the kinds of images many people fall in love with.
PhotoPills builds a detailed, personalized plan based on the information you provide. From there, you create your concept and set up a schedule. It includes a to-do list for each location and time you specify, with reminders prepared in advance using your pre-set timing—so you don’t miss those unforgettable moments.
Featured events such as the golden hour, blue hour, and super moon day are designed to be easy to use in your creative planning. With the Widget tool, a single swipe gives you the information you need in a clear, full-color presentation with readable, sharp fonts. You can also rely on the bulletin-style board to keep track of scheduled photography plans, helping you stay in control and adjust the plan to match your preferences.
Knowing when and where a unique phenomenon appears is only part of the challenge. To create truly standout work, your camera angle matters just as much. PhotoPills includes location scouting tools and offers researched shooting-angle suggestions—so every step of your setup aims for maximum productivity and the best possible composition.
User Reviews
“I’ve been using this app for over a year now and I love it.” The planning tools make everything easier, but I’m still discovering more it can do. If you’re on the fence, give it a try—you won’t regret it.
“Good app—had some installation issues.” I ran into problems installing it on multiple devices (my phone and tablet). After logging out of Google and signing back in, it worked. Next, I’m learning how to get the most out of it for planning trips. Addendum: I took my first milky way photos last weekend thanks to PhotoPills, and they turned out really well. I’m planning my next weekend trip, hoping the clouds cooperate.

“This is the one for planning.” I’d been looking for a photo app that pretty much handles everything, and this is it. It has many great features, especially for landscape photographers. A huge part of great landscapes is planning and imagining the final frame before you press the shutter. The app includes the planning tools you need to capture your best shot. I also love the milky way augmented reality—it’s a real game changer.
“Fantastic and a huge time saver.” It makes moon and star photography planning much easier. There’s a learning curve, though—if you prefer “grab and go,” you might feel a bit frustrated at first. The good news is there are plenty of excellent tutorial videos from the developer and other photographers. It would be even better if it were available on Windows desktop, since planning on a bigger screen is simpler. “Photopills, can you make that happen?”
