A: Don’t give up immediately—try a few troubleshooting steps. Start by switching plugins, since not every plugin works well with every game. If possible, try Pete’s plugins for GPU (such as OpenGL, D3D, or Soft) for the best compatibility (see the plugins section for more plugin troubleshooting).

Next, you can try disabling MDECs, because some games may crash when attempting to play the opening movie. If you’re launching from an ISO file, test with Daemon Tools, as some games require it to run correctly. Others have reported that using a different BIOS version helped the emulator work with certain titles.

Then, verify that the CD-ROM drive is able to at least attempt to read the game disc. If nothing happens on startup, try a different plugin. If it still doesn’t work, you can attempt loading game patches using the “Cheat” option in PSX Emulator—some patches include special fixes or workarounds for specific games.

Finally, try launching with “-cdtiming” or enable “Enable Accurate CD-ROM Timing” in the CD-ROM configuration screen. If none of the above helps, you may need to wait for a future update (and since the emulator is free, please avoid contacting the authors asking for specific games to work in the next release).

Q: Which BIOS files are best to use?

A: Based on testing, SCPH-1000, SCPH-5000, and SCPH-5005 don’t appear to work with PSX Emulator. The recommended choices are SCPH-1001 and SCPH-7502, which performed well during tests.

Q: Can I use Region X patches for Region Y versions of games?

A: No. Each patch is made for a specific game region, and it likely won’t work properly with another region.

Q: Does PSX Emulator support disc swapping for multi-disc games?
