Pokemon Lets Go is a casual adventure built for fans of the Pokémon series. You begin by choosing your starter Pokémon—either Pikachu or Eevee—and then set off on a journey where your companion Pokémon travels with you. Along the way, you can interact with your partner and even customize their outfit.

You’ll meet many different Pokémon, capture the ones you find, and use them in battles. Team up against Trainers and Gym Leaders around the world to earn achievements and valuable rewards. As you strengthen your Pokémon and improve their stats, they can grow and eventually evolve. The game also supports gamepad controls, so once you set up your button layout, you can play in a comfortable way.

Catching Pokémon

While exploring the world, wild Pokémon appear in areas like tall grass. To try catching one, simply move up to it. When you make contact, you’ll get the chance to throw Poké Balls.

Wild Pokémon will roam around and may try to throw you off, but you can stay focused. Time your throw by using your Joy-Con correctly.

• Nintendo Switch (handheld mode): move the system to aim, then press the A Button to throw a Poké Ball.

Make Catching Easier

Your odds of success improve based on your timing and where the Poké Ball lands. Throwing a Poké Ball inside the shrinking ring increases your chances—especially when the ring becomes small.

• Ring color matters: green indicates an easier catch, while red means it’s harder.

Battling Pokémon Trainers

If a Trainer spots you during your travels, it’s time to battle. Pokémon battles are fought with up to six Pokémon per Trainer. Each Pokémon uses moves, and the winner is whoever manages to knock out the opposing team.

Moves and Pokémon have types, and type matchups affect how much damage a move deals. For instance, Fire-type moves tend to be very effective against Grass-type Pokémon, but not as effective against Water-type Pokémon. Success comes from understanding matchups and choosing both the right Pokémon to send out and the right moves to use.

Link Battles and Trading

You can connect with other players and fight them. There are two ways to communicate for battles:

• Local communication: connects two nearby Nintendo Switch consoles.
• Internet communication: lets you connect with players who are farther away.

You can also trade Pokémon using these same communication options. Trading with friends helps you collect Pokémon you haven’t encountered yet and progress through your Pokédex.

Note: To use the internet-based communication features for battling and trading, you must sign up for Nintendo Switch Online, which officially begins in September.
