Useful Tips for FIFA 14
Training and Skill Games
Before jumping into a match, warm up in the practice area:
- Open PLAY > + MORE > PRACTICE ARENA from the FIFA 14 menu
- Press the SELECT button to open the PRACTICE ARENA menu
- Choose PRACTICE MATCH and start a practice game
A good starting setup is to play as the defending team with up to 9 defenders against 11 attackers. This helps you build stronger defending skills. Since winning requires preventing goals, focus on not letting opponents score first. After you improve, switch roles and practice attacking with fewer attackers than defenders.
You can also improve by playing Skill Games. Go to PLAY > SKILL GAMES in the menu and follow the steps. Begin with passing (ground pass), then move to shooting, dribbling, defending, and more. It can take some time, but aim to reach at least Bronze Level.
Passing

Passing is the foundation of match control. Once you’re comfortable with the pass buttons, focus on accuracy and ball control. Learn when to use short passes and when to play long balls. A strong habit is to complete at least 5–6 successful passes when you gain possession, then plan your attack. If you lose the ball, try to win it back with tackles and immediately set up a scoring move using precise passes.

Learn How to Defend
Defense is essential if you want to win. Before trying to score consistently, make sure you can defend effectively. For your starting eleven, choose defenders with the highest heading and sprint rates. Taller players can help deal with crosses. If you want extra guidance, look up an article on how to defend in FIFA 14 and apply those techniques in practice to sharpen your defending.
Learn How to Score
Once your defending improves, you’ll be ready to focus on finishing chances. Before scoring, you need to learn how to set up an attack using passing, dribbling, and shooting.
