The Crew 2 Introduction

The Crew 2 Race across the USA in The Crew 2, an open-world multiplayer racing game. Switch between cars, planes, motorcycles, and boats, compete in events, and earn rewards.

The Crew 2

The Crew 2 is a racing title that has earned a loyal fanbase around the world. You’ll take the wheel of many different vehicle types and race through multiple kinds of roads, showcasing both your driving and drifting skills in a big open-world racing experience. Join a wide range of races, then battle up to seven other players at the same time—aiming to outpace every rival and climb to the top of the leaderboard. The game also receives ongoing updates, with new tracks, vehicles, and events added regularly to keep things feeling fresh.

Gameplay

The Crew 2 leans heavily into motorsport-style racing, moving away from the underground street-racing vibe featured in the first game. The world is set on the same general U.S. map as before, but with plenty of geographical changes.

The Crew 2

The game includes several vehicle categories. Cars are there, but the variety expands beyond that—featuring planes, motorcycles, and boats. Each vehicle type uses its own physics and control feel, so switching genres of racing changes how the game plays. You can swap quickly using the Fast Fav feature. Your overall progress is tracked through a system called Status, which reflects your growing fame based on the followers you earn.

In FreeDrive, you can explore the country at your own pace. You can also trigger activities while roaming, including events and skill challenges. By performing different styles of driving and flying, you earn followers, which contribute to your Status. These follower gains are banked after your score period ends, as long as you don’t get interrupted.

Throughout the map, you’ll find LIVE crates. Depending on how rare the crate is, you’ll receive performance parts when you open it.

The game offers multiple competition options, from full events to smaller skill challenges. Each event is built around a specific discipline and requires vehicles suited to that discipline. Skills are more loosely tied to the motorsport family, meaning you can often complete them using vehicles from other related categories.

Tips and Strategies

With so many vehicle types available, it’s easy to get comfortable with one driving style—then accidentally hurt your performance when switching to another. Use these tips to race better, earn more followers, and stay on the path to the finish.

Ease off the brakes

  • Even later in the game, when you’re piloting extremely fast hyper-cars, you usually won’t need to brake hard to take corners.
  • Braking too late can cause your car to slip and drift off course.
  • Instead, reduce your acceleration well before the turn so you can regain top speed sooner.

Don’t blow your nitrous too early

  • Press X on PS4 or A on Xbox One to activate nitrous for a burst of speed.
  • It’s tempting to use it immediately on long straightaways, but it’s smarter to keep it for emergencies.
  • The Crew 2

  • If you slip off the road, nitrous can help you recover your previous pace—sometimes the difference between winning and finishing last.

Finish the race instead of rage-restarting

  • We get it—hitting restart can feel tempting when you lose the lead near the end.
  • However, restarting means you lose out on free followers you would have gained just for completing the race.
  • Even if you end up losing, you’ll still earn a limited amount of followers and cash for finishing.

Use “Back on Track”

  • On PS4, hold L1 + R1; on Xbox One, hold LB + RB to trigger Back on Track.
  • This sends you back onto the course immediately after a crash.
  • If you use it quickly enough after a mistake, you may still be able to compete in the race.
  • In most cases, it’s faster than manually getting back onto the track—so practice using it regularly.

Don’t skip photo opportunities

  • While driving around the open world, you’ll sometimes get a notification for a nearby photo op.
  • These short tasks send you into different locations—wilderness, city streets, or the sky—so you can snap a photo of an animal or a point of interest.
  • Even though they don’t look like traditional racing content, they reward about as many followers as a street race, and they take much less time.

Earn extra followers with freestyle tricks

  • If you don’t feel like racing, you can still make progress by performing stunts.
  • This is easiest in a plane, where you can attempt rolls and other maneuvers.
  • Even in many other vehicles, hitting high speeds and pulling off impressive actions can grant additional followers.
  • Freestyle tricks don’t pay out cash, though—so you’ll still need events for money.

Switch vehicles on the fly

  • While exploring, click the right analog stick to instantly switch vehicle type.
  • If you launch off a huge jump in a car, you can quickly switch to a plane and keep flying, or switch again to a boat and race through rapids.
