Town of Salem is a lively werewolf-style social deduction game built for 7 to 15 players. Every participant is assigned to a faction and must play toward that faction’s victory condition. The game includes 33 distinct roles—from Town residents and Mafia members to Serial Killers, Arsonists, and various Neutral factions.

Your goal is to maneuver through rounds of conversation and deception. During the Day discussions, players try to uncover who doesn’t belong. During the defense phase, votes decide who gets put on trial—leading to eliminations until a single winner remains. You can also customize the experience with town map settings, character looks, pets, death animations, and more.

In each match, you’ll be challenged to identify and eliminate opposing roles through careful planning, timing, and teamwork—while still keeping your own identity hidden. Downloading Town of Salem - The Coven lets you jump into this mix of strategy, bluffing, and group coordination.

Players are randomly sorted into one of several alignments, such as:

• Town
• Mafia



• Serial Killers
• Arsonists
• Neutrals

Town-aligned players work to expose the villains before they get removed. The twist is that you usually don’t know other people’s roles at the start, so suspicion and uncertainty are constant.

Roles are central to gameplay. This version includes 33 unique roles, each tied to its own abilities and alignment. Before the match begins, you enter a lobby where the host sets which roles will appear. Once the game starts, you receive a role card describing your character’s powers, helping you plan how to act effectively.

Matches are split into two main phases:

• Night: Many roles use their abilities here. For example, Serial Killers can remove Town members quietly, while Doctors can heal players who were targeted. Night is tense because you must use powers carefully without exposing yourself.
• Day: Players meet to discuss suspicions, debate claims, and share information. A key part of the Day phase is voting—where the majority decides who goes to trial. This encourages active communication and coordinated decision-making.

Because role combinations and match flow vary, no two games feel exactly the same, keeping each session fresh.

Useful Tips

Write On Your Will

On the right side of the chat area, tap the brown paper icon to write your Will. If you die, it will be shown to the entire town. Many new players forget to write it, which means they leave teammates without key information.

Focus on your daily activities. Most characters have a skill you can use on specific targets. Each night, note who you used your ability on. If you get eliminated, this becomes the main clue you can leave for your allies.

Other players may also ask to see your Will—especially if they suspect you could be an enemy. Having a Will that clearly matches your actions can help clear your name.

If you’re playing a Mafia or another evil role, you may need to write a false Will that stays consistent with the role you claimed, helping you maintain your cover.

Keep Track Of People’s Stories

You usually have limited time to talk each Day, so conversations can move quickly. Make sure you listen to what people say and who says it. If you can, keep notes with pen and paper. Otherwise, you can use the paper with a feather-pen icon located on the right side of the Will icon.

Always track:

• What roles each player claims (this helps you catch contradictions if they lie)
• Any important information revealed
• Who shared that information

For example, if someone claims to be a Sheriff and says that Player 1 is part of the Mafia, write it down. The town might decide to delay or act differently later, so having the detail matters.

Also, read the Wills of players who die. When players are eliminated, their roles are typically revealed. This helps confirm what was written—and it can show who might have been responsible for the kill.

Example: if an Escort tries to role-block a Serial Killer, the Escort is likely to be killed instead. If you read the Escort’s Will and it lists the last person they visited, you may be able to narrow down who the Serial Killer is.

If the Will disappears from the main view, use the tombstone icon on the second tab to check the names and details again.
