CHRONO TRIGGER
CHRONO TRIGGER is a classic role-playing adventure where you set out to save the planet. Take command of a party of allies and battle a wide variety of enemies across three eras—past, present, and future.
Pick three characters and use their abilities and items with smart timing to win fights and earn rewards. As you gain experience points, Tech points, and gold, you’ll level up your team, buy stronger equipment, and improve skills—boosting your combat power over time.
Every character has their own signature moves and distinct attribute tendencies. Develop them your way to build a battle style that fits your needs and preferences.
Key Features
Comfortable controls
Whether you prefer a gamepad or a keyboard, the controls have been updated to make gameplay feel smoother and more comfortable.
Active Time Battle Version 2
- Time keeps moving during fights—battles don’t pause.
- You can issue commands when your character’s gauge is full.
- Enemy positions can shift as time passes, so adjust your choices based on the current situation.
Tech moves and combo attacks
During combat, unleash special Tech moves—abilities and/or magic. Some characters can even combine their powers to trigger brand-new combo attacks unique to them.
There are 50+ different combo types, typically performed using two or three characters.
Explore the Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum dungeons
- Dimensional Vortex: A strange, ever-changing dungeon that exists outside of space and time. What you’ll find at its core is a mystery.
- Lost Sanctum: Mysterious gates from prehistoric and medieval eras open into forgotten chambers. Face what’s inside, and you may uncover long-hidden secrets.
Graphics and sound
While preserving the vibe of the original, the game upgrades visuals to higher resolution. The music and sound are also enhanced under the supervision of composer Yasunori Mitsuda, delivering an even more immersive experience.
What Makes CHRONO TRIGGER Stand Out
Exploration through time and space
The world created by CHRONO TRIGGER is full of charm that you won’t find in real life. Explore a multiverse where time can be reversed—or pushed forward into the future.
You’ll start by confronting harsh, primitive challenges in prehistoric eras, then gradually move into older and more developed ages. Venture deeper into the Middle Ages, experience the present, and contemplate what lies ahead.
Encounters adapt as the world changes, reshaping what you face in each environment. It’s like closing a natural loop—yet the journey continues far beyond what you’d expect on this earth. Across the ages, miracles await, creating one of the most memorable adventures in gaming history.
Helpful equipment upgrades
As you push through battles, you’ll face plenty of tough moments. CHRONO TRIGGER includes support options designed to reduce the pressure.
- Adjust graphics and sound settings.
- Use tools that help manage and control your fighting force.
- Since each character’s combat style differs, the best strategy often comes from pairing the right combinations.
With 50+ combinations available, your moves are always within reach. Weapons and gear also need to be acquired and upgraded quickly—because even exceptional combat talent can only shine with the right support.
Memorable cast of characters
You’ll meet many of the same characters featured in the original game.
- Crono: a strong, kind-hearted hero ready to risk anything to save someone—or even the entire world.
- Marle: a girl accidentally pulled into another dimension.
- Lucca and more companions you’ll encounter along the way.
With plenty of friends and enemies to meet, the journey is packed with fun encounters.
Useful Tips
- Don’t grind TP. You don’t need to spend tons of time earning it—TP is available in much larger amounts than you think.
- Tech learning can pause until you take a character to Spekkio at the end of time. For example, if you get Frog, don’t rush into the boss castle without revisiting the time gate first to obtain his magic—otherwise you’ll waste TP.
- Keep a Memory Helmet for Ayla, Crono, or Robo to quickly deal with mushrooms (e.g., Mt. Woe, 100 TP) and turrets aboard a ship (also 100 TP).
- Put Ayla in your party with TP focus so she can learn Charm—the earlier the better. Even if it doesn’t feel fully rewarding until near the end of the game, it’s still worth doing.
- Use Marle with TP focus so she can learn Ice2 + Haste. The desert’s first optional dungeon includes enemies that make this setup especially useful. That area is also a strong spot for TP/experience, and it can help you reach access points for things like memory caps and equipment that protects against status ailments. You can do this before Mt. Woe / turrets, and it’s easy to rack up TP from certain special monsters. If you don’t have Marle learn Ice2, you can still land a powerful dual Tech that hits all enemies with ice—but it may require Frog as part of the combo.
- Visit 600 and interact with the sealed chests, but do not open them.
