Thronefall Introduction
Thronefall Thronefall is a strategy tower defense where you fortify the kingdom by day and defend it from endless night waves. Recruit crossbowmen and knights, build powerful defenses, and earn gold after every battle.
Thronefall
Thronefall is a celebrated strategy tower defense game. During the day, you’ll gather resources and construct defenses, then at night you’ll rally brave soldiers to hold back relentless enemy waves. Survive the assaults and keep your kingdom’s core buildings standing. After each night battle, you earn gold that you can use to recruit more troops.
As the game progresses, enemies come in different forms, so you’ll need to recruit the right mix—such as crossbowmen and knights—and build specialized defenses like arrow towers, gladiator schools, or pumpkin fields. These investments help boost training and gold bonuses, giving you an edge in later waves.
How gameplay works
Thronefall is a strategy game built around tower defense mechanics. Your kingdom is anchored by a large hall that the ruler must protect. To defend it, spend gold to create walls, defensive towers, and other structures.
You can also grow your income by constructing homes and farmland within the kingdom, along with additional economic buildings such as mines and fisheries.
Soldiers like crossbowmen and knights are recruited at barracks. Once recruited, you can place them across your territory to cover key areas and respond to where enemies break through.
When your preparations are finished, the next phase begins as night falls and enemy waves arrive. Beyond relying on towers and units, you can also fight using the ruler’s own weapons—a bow and a spear, each with unique abilities. Clearing a night by defeating every enemy allows you to restore any buildings and units that were destroyed. You’ll then receive additional gold based on how many structures survived the attacks.
Key features

Build your kingdom during the day
Thronefall includes a daytime planning phase where you spend resources to strengthen your base. You can place or upgrade walls, mills, towers, farms, forges, and more. Your choices affect how safely you’ll weather the next night, and each upgrade comes with a clear strategic purpose.
Hold the line during night attacks
When darkness arrives, the game shifts into a faster, more dangerous rhythm. You must protect important buildings as hostile waves intensify over time. Since each night brings mounting pressure, you’ll need to identify weak points in your layout before the next assault begins.

Manage income and defense
You choose how to distribute your resources between economic growth and combat readiness. Extra income can pay off later, but you may need sturdier defenses, more archers, or improved gear sooner. This creates a straightforward yet meaningful planning loop for each round.
Fight as a mounted hero
You’re not limited to issuing commands from above. Thronefall lets you step in directly as a mounted hero. Use weapons like a longbow or charge into enemies on horseback. Taking an active role makes defense feel more personal—especially when a side of your base needs urgent support.
Replay with fresh setups
The game supports multiple playthroughs with variety through different maps, hero weapons, perks, unit options, enemy modifiers, and challenge configurations. Once you understand one layout, you can return with a new build and test a different approach—adding variety without requiring heavy micromanagement.

Highlights
- Dynamic Day–Night Cycle: Plan and build in the day, then lead the charge during the night against invading waves.
- Action-Heavy Mounted Combat: Control the ruler while riding—slice enemies up close or attack at range with precision.
- Deep Economy Management: Use a well-balanced financial system to decide how much to invest in expansion and how much to upgrade defenses.
- Minimalist Design, Maximum Tactics: Avoid tedious micro-management while keeping the stakes high.
- Different Enemy Types: Adapt to threats ranging from swarming ground units to specialized flyers and heavy siege attackers.
Strategy tips
Use choke points
Place towers where enemies are funneled into narrow paths. This increases your defenses’ effectiveness by letting them hit multiple targets at once.

Bring variety

Mix tower types so your defense can handle more situations. For example, combine archer towers for ranged pressure with barracks-trained melee units to cover both close and long-range threats.
Upgrade smart
Instead of scattering resources across many weak towers, upgrade a few key defenses. A single maxed-out tower often performs better than several basic ones, while also saving space and materials.
Collect early, collect fast
Start gathering resources as soon as possible. The sooner you build up gold and supplies, the faster you can reinforce your defenses for the next stages.
