Mario Kart Tour Introduction

Mario Kart Tour Join Mario Kart Tour for global city races with up to 7 opponents. Use item boxes for speed boosts or sabotage, chase fast times on leaderboards, and unlock new drivers, karts, and gliders.

Mario Kart Tour

Mario Kart Tour sends you racing across the world. Pilot go-karts on city-themed tracks and compete against up to seven other players. Use your driving skills, grab powerful items to push ahead or trip up rivals, and aim to take the checkered flag. As you progress, you’ll earn rewards and unlock new racers, karts, and gliders. Fastest lap times for each track are shown in a leaderboard. Prefer to train first? Jump into single-player practice and race against players from around the globe.

Gameplay Overview

This title shifts away from the classic “finish first” goal you may know from earlier Mario Kart games. Instead, the game uses a points-based scoring system.

  • Speed classes: 50cc (“leisurely”), 100cc (“fast”), 150cc (“very fast”), and 200cc (“too fast”).
  • 200cc access: 200cc is available only to Gold Pass subscribers (a purchasable in-game subscription).
  • Mario Kart Tour

  • More automatic driving: many actions—especially acceleration and boost jump behavior—are handled automatically compared with earlier entries.
  • Returning features: includes underwater racing and hang-gliding, inspired by Mario Kart 7.
  • Mario Kart Tour

  • Frenzy Mode: if you pull three identical items from an item box, you enter Frenzy Mode and can reuse that item repeatedly for a short time.
  • Special Skills: each character can receive a unique item from item boxes, often referred to as a Special Skill.

Tour System

Instead of classic seasons, the game runs in a recurring structure called Tours. Each Tour is named after real-world cities, Mario characters, Mario series games, or other themes.

  • Tour duration: every Tour lasts two weeks, starting on Wednesday at 1:00 a.m. EST.
  • Mario Kart Tour

  • Events inside a Tour: you’ll take part in 12 to 18 cups and collect drivers, karts, and gliders tied to the Tour’s cities or themes.
  • Spotlight items: during a Tour, special spotlight drivers, karts, and gliders are also available.
  • Cups and course structure: each cup contains three courses plus a bonus challenge.
    • Some courses adapted from Super Mario Kart are labeled “RMX courses” and use layouts different from the originals, with new mechanics.
    • Courses from earlier cups can return in later cups.
    • Most races use two laps, while most bonus challenges use one lap.
    • Cup names also follow a driver-themed naming style, rather than using the usual item names seen in some Mario franchise entries.

Progression, Stars, and Levels

After each race, you earn Grand Stars. These help you unlock Tour gifts, including coins and experience points for the racer, kart, and glider you used.

  • Top 3 finish: you gain player points for your level.
  • 5th place or lower: your level gauge decreases.
  • Fill the gauge: once the gauge is fully completed, you level up and receive a reward.
  • Course limits: each course has an experience point cap.
  • Current max level: the highest player level is 400.

Useful Tips

Find Your Ideal Setup

Mario Kart Tour

Start by deciding which drivers, karts, and gliders you enjoy. Early on, your options may feel limited, but it’s crucial to identify your favorites and then work on improving them.

  • Consider what you want most: stronger acceleration, a faster kart, better handling, or other advantages.
  • You may end up using two or three setups depending on the race types and challenges you face.
  • Try to keep a main combination—one racer, one kart, and one glider—that can carry you near the top in most situations.

Go After Grand Stars

As you complete courses, win cups, and score points, you’ll begin earning Grand Stars. These stars unlock new cups, which can include Tour Gift rewards.

  • Grand Star rewards may include new drivers, karts, gliders, coins, and rubies.
  • It’s a good idea to push through levels as far as you can while collecting stars, then use what you earn to upgrade your setup and return for the harder stars you missed.

Save Your Item (When It Matters)

If you aren’t in first place, it’s usually smart to use your item relatively early. However, when you’re leading, holding it can be advantageous.

  • In first place: you’re effectively “on display,” and keeping an item provides protection—your item can help negate an incoming attack (at the cost of the item).
  • Mario Kart Tour

  • When another item is about to come: feel free to use your current one if it helps you avoid wasting potential.
  • Don’t be afraid to wait: it can be better to win without spending an item than to lose out for a risky boost trigger.

Rank Casually

When ranking challenges appear, it’s easy to get competitive and chase the highest position. If you can push comfortably without spending coins or rubies, go for it—but if you need to spend heavily, reassess before overcommitting.
